This Video shows The Dive Charter version of the PowerGlide 40,
a 12 m Catamaran outside Weymouth Harbour. Although with this power, the Cat is capable of over 30 knots, the speed in the video was never more than Cruising at 20 Knots. Notice how easily the Cat is driven through the water and the absence of water being pushed forward by the bows generally seen in the planing style of Cat Hull.

We have extended the Powerglide 40ft to 46 ft
now (14m).
This gives a very much bigger cockpit to the already
successful 40 ft Catamaran. By extending this we can now offer a highly
competitive Catamaran at 14 m in length. ( 46 ft)
The first of this class has been launched this year and is
now working in Pwllheli, North Wales as a tourist vessel.
Built to the Lloyds SSC rules and also to MCA class 6, to
carry 30 passengers plus crew.
Powered with twin Iveco Nef 400hp engines,
downrated to 370hp. The Cat has a fully enclosed Fly Bridge wheelhouse,
upper deck seating, lower deck seating and inside seating to accommodate the
passengers.
A comfortable Galley, kitted out with Induction Hobs,
microwave cooker, refrigerator and of course hot and cold pressurised water.
Shearwater in Padstow before delivery.
Also built, our first high
performance wind farm vessel
already working at Walney Windfarm Cumbria and making a big impact. This craft utilises the full size wheelhouse which has been
customised to allow the crew to have access along the stb side to the
disembarking platform at the bow. Seating inside for the 12 passengers
plus 2 crew.
The craft is fitted with twin Iveco 450 hp Commercial engines
downrated to a continuous output of 370 hp each. This will give a
top speed of over 30 knots and the opportunity for this vessel to cruise at
maximum speed for long periods when required.

In build at the same time is a commercial survey
vessel, 46 ft again and built with a special moonpool and
attachments to lower the technical survey equipment down through the centre of
the deck. Also equipped with a 1.5 ton hydraulic winch and pivoted gantry to
raise and lower the other Surveying equipment that will normally be towed.
I am often asked if the Catamaran requires Bow Thrusters,
the simple answer is NO.
Towards the end of the year, is a 46ft
tourist vessel bound for the West of Scotland. Also to be fitted with twin Iveco
Nef 400 hp engines.
This is also a MCA class 6 Catamaran which will be
operating with 40 passengers on board.
There has been a big shift towards the MCA Class 6 vessels
, licensed to carry more than the normal 12 pax + 2.
It will give the owners and skippers a greater opportunity
to take out more passengers of those rare days of summer sunshine, and still be
able to earn a living.
We specialise in the building of our highly customised
Catamarans. You have the choice of 12.2m and 14 m now and each have a role to
play in the commercial world. Both are highly efficient displacement craft
and the top speeds are over 30 knots. If you have a a
requirement for such a catamaran please allow us the opportunity to show you
what we can supply.
You can still, of course, purchase these cats purely as
leisure craft for you own use, but you will, unfortunately, have to pay the VAT on
these as you would anywhere else.

Although we have been building these cat for about 13 years now, it is still probably the best kept secret in the charter world. Summer is the best time to order for the next season.
Power Catamarans have developed a charter Catamaran designed to give the absolute maximum fuel economy for skippers combined with an excellent turn of speed. The boat gives just about perfect sea keeping and eliminates the pounding and slamming that some planing Catamarans still manage to produce.
The hull of the craft was designed by Crowther Catamarans in Australia, probably the worlds best known Catamaran designers with over 3000 designs completed in their long history. It was by no chance that this Cat was originally described as the most economical production cat in the world. The combination of speed and fuel economy, which until then had been impossible to attain, has now become the normal practice with our craft.
Top speeds are usually around the 32 knots mark, but can go a little higher and can, of course, be set considerably lower. We could fit twin 120 hp engines and still achieve the good side of twenty knots flat out. No wasted energy. The ultra slim bows just slice through the water like a thoroughbred race boat. The Cat creates no fuss in the water, no big bow wave being pushed in front of the boat to show how much energy you really are wasting. Look at the section on Comparison & Performance in the Download Details to find out how much you may be pumping into thin air.
Very fast and very economical.
this Cat will actually cruise at 25 knots all day and give you over 30 knots when you want it. Of course you don’t have to cruise at 25 knots!
If you wish to cruise at 15 knots your saving will be even greater, although
your time for the trip will increase of course. Soft smooth riding and perfect sea keeping in any conditions you can go out in.
ECONOMY
For instance most charter skippers would be very happy just to cruise around at 16 to 18 knots. All day Every day. At this speed you will only consume 1.56 litres per mile, or in every day figures 2.9 miles per gallon or 18 miles for 6.2 gallons.
Now at Cruising speed of 25 knots you will consume 2.48 litres per mile and return a figure of 1.83 miles per gallon or 18 miles for 9.8 gallons. A little more fuel but less time.
When we take the boat to 30 knots, consumption increases to 3.0 litres per mile or 1.5 miles per gallon or 18 miles for 11.88 gallons. Not quite twice the fuel of the 18 knot speed but you get there in almost half the time. More fuel per hour but almost half the time to cover the ground. The figures above are relative to our 12 m Catamaran fitted with twin engines 300 hp each or over. Top speed over 30 knots. Cruise speed anything from 12 to 27 knots.
figures for the 46 ft Cat are very similar.
You can see all this information on the Fuel & Speed Graph but I have clarified it for you with these figures.

Wind
farm working consumes very much more fuel than the above figures due
to the "pushing onto tower" factor. We can achieve many times this
saving with the Powerglide 46.
As
you can easily see our fuel figures are in the area of 20 % better
or more economical
than these comparisons.
It
is usually unnecessary to go this fast as the top speeds here
are
generally not required.
You
can, in fact, run our Catamaran on twin engines down as low as 120
hp each side and
have a top speed of around 21 knots!!!
But these figures show
that speed for speed this will be your fuel saving .
So during your whole
year, how would you like to have at least, 20 % cash back !!
20 % less expense 20
% more profit.
Whichever way you work
it out, you save money.
So if your are
travelling a distance of 50 miles each trip and make an estimated
200 trips out
each year you could save 2000 miles worth of fuel.
In
other words you can have 40
days of trips with “Free fuel”
Its like paying 20%
less for your fuel every day. You would love that if it was your
car.
Also when you couple
this to the additional comfort that our High Performance
displacement Catamaran can bring you, and the deck space available
you are winning every single way you look at the figures.
